The Port of Navegantes is an enterprise idealized and administered by Portonave S.A. - Terminais Portuarios de Navegantes. The company is formed by TPI - Triunfo Participacoes e Investimentos - and by Backmoon Investments Inc. Implementation started in 1998 with the purchasing of land at the Ponta da Divineia in Navegantes by entrepreneur Agostinho Leao. After licensing, building started in October 2005 and was concluded in August 2007 in accordance with the set schedule. October 18 of that same year was a milestone for the history of Portonave. On that date the company obtained the customhouse from the Federal Revenue. The first commercial vessel docked at Navegantes early Sunday afternoon on October 21. |

Besides operating in the port sector the company, through its integral subsidiary,
Iceport -
is building a storing, handling, distribution and cold cargo consolidating center beside the Navegantes Terminal. The enterprise will have capacity for 18 thousand tons and about 16 thousand pallet positions and will be divided into climatized and conventional chambers. The first part will have all the cargo moving operation carried out by means of trans elevators (high tech robots that handle up to 360 pallets per hour). The operation of the cool chamber and Terminal will be integrated and will bring advantage to manufacturers, importers and exporters of frozen cargo. Operation as been scheduled for July, 2008.
